Bummed out

that I couldn’t give blood today. Or at all!! 🙁
Apparently the Red Cross has changed it’s weight requirement from over 110 lbs. to 146 lbs. for someone that is 4’10”. Um, hello??? I can’t gain that much weight in such a short amount of time!! I barely just gained over a hundred pounds over the summer, I have no idea how but I did!!
I don’t think I’ll ever gain 146 lbs. I walk alot, run around the house here with my roommate’s dog, watch what I eat most of the time (chocolate is my downfall..) and see my doctor periodically. If I do gain that much weight, it’ll probably be cause I’m expecting. I think that’s the only time I’ll gain so much weight…but besides that, no I don’t see myself ever reaching requirements which makes me sad.
I called my sister and asked her about the requirement and she was really surprised. The Red Cross barely changed it this year and the nice doctor (nurse??) showed me the chart of the weight requirement; it goes down for increased height. My sis said that they give blood at the blood center (blood bank??) and the requirements haven’t changed there. It’s still over 110 lbs. for them. I’ll definitely have to check up on that. Hopefully I can give blood cause I want to help others. 🙂
Although it was a sad experience for me, I still got a t-shirt and they were so nice because I had at least tried. Yep, that’s all I did: try. 🙂 Which makes me happy cause at least they knew that I wanted to help.
I still won’t gain that much weight. My roommate even said she would never gain that much weight. Lol.
She said “That’s crazy!”. Yep, my thoughts as well.
Enough of my rant. I need to finish getting things together to go home today 🙂 No class tomorrow so I have a three day weekend. Class was canceled which makes me happy but kinda not. I have no idea how to feel on that part. Lol.

  1. Are you serious? I guess I’ll never be able to give blood either, because even though I am preggo, I don’t weigh that much! I wonder how much you have to weigh for my height…

  2. Hi! I work at the Red Cross on social media. It’s great that you want to help by donating blood, and just to clarify, the new height/weight restrictions are only for donors under 19 years old. Once you are older than 19, you will be able to donate as long as you weight over 110 lbs. You can see more info here: http://www.redcross.org/en/eligibility

Let me know if you have any other questions!

  3. Oh okay. Thank you for the clarification. I’m over 19 years old and they still said I couldn’t donate blood.
