My thoughts on the Sears Heroes at Home program

Laptop Trackpad

The fall is almost upon us and it has started with the craziness of technology.

I may receive some bad feedback on my next sentences but I don’t care.  It’s my opinion and if you don’t like it, you can just read something else.

I know that Sears offers the Heroes at Home Wish Registry for the past few years.  M and I have used it about twice and it came in handy as we had to replace things that had either been lost in the process of moving or due to emergencies where our funds had to go to other important things.

We know that Sears doesn’t have to do this at all but we are grateful for even being able to get anything in return even if it is a $20 gift card.  It is sad to see so many spouses lose their minds and dignity in complaining that they didn’t receive much.

This has been on my mind lately and it is my honest opinion.  What about the National Guard and Reserve members? Are they not heroes too?

Why do they not have the opportunity to sign up for this program as well?

I have meet spouses from Reserves and National Guard who would have been grateful for any support even if their spouses are “civilians”.  Some spouses may have a 9-5 job but it also may not be the best in regards to finances and it’s not possible at times to move to find a “great job with benefits”.

I have just been discouraged at the limitations that some programs have in just having it be open to active duty or their family only and I am an active duty family member!

Some of my most wonderful friends are Reserve or Guard spouses so I know why my opinions are what they are and don’t see them any different from myself in dealing with the military or deployments, etc.

I strongly dislike program limitations (even if it is a small opinion) and I know it probably won’t change anything but I need to have it known.

With those thoughts in mind, within the next few weeks as M and I continue our transition, I would love to start a series to begin this fall season and highlight spouses from every branch (including Coast Guard!) and every status (active, National Guard, Reserve, and even retired/veteran spouses if possible).

If you are interested in being a part of my series, please drop me an e-mail.  I would love to highlight who you are. 🙂
